When you’re planning a wedding it is easy to get overwhelmed by the big stuff like staying within your budget, maintaining a count of your RSVPs and selecting service vendors, but the little details that go into your event are what truly make it spectaclar. The most recent edition of Brides’s magazine features a list of 100 things to do for under $100 (each) that will really upgrade your wedding. This extensive list had tons of great ideas and fabulous websites that they recommend.
Of the ones mentioned my favorite was “Just Married” car banners. I love these! In addition to making a statement to everyone you pass on the road, even after your formal departure, they are a beautiful finishing touch for your fabulous event (not to mention a great photo opp). Check out A bride’s ride for great do it yourself packages that start at an affordable $47. The they offer a variety of “statements”; hitched, just married, I do, we did it! & forever. After you’ve wed it’s time to tell the world, why not do it with an eye-catching, elegantly decorated get away car?

Recently, as I was perusing the internet for wedding ideas I came across this gem of an idea. It is on the weddingchannel.com’s website. Instead of a traditional cake stand the bride decided to take on a little DIY and add a little something extra. Click on the link below to see the great pics. She took a (wide and short) round vase and filled it with hydrangeas and then placed a square piece of (flat) glass on the top. As a finishing touch she put a few more hydrangeas on the upside of the flat piece of glass. Voila! Most of her supplies came from Home Depot and/or Lowe’s. If you’re interested, check out the original posting for full step-by-step details on how to do this. www.mydiyweddingday.com/2009/10/howto-diy-cakestand.html

After viewing thousands of wedding invitations, designs and monograms it is always refreshing in to see something customized and different. Recently in a wedding magazine I read there was a blurb on Ambigrams, these Angels & Demons-esque designs are really engaging and unique.

Wedding Ambigrams

An ambigram combines word-art and optical illusions ~ a word is drawn so that it will appear the exact same when flipped up-side down. This creates a beautifully symmetrical piece of artwork is sure to catch your guests’ eye and serve as a great conversation piece.

With a two word ambigram, the first word rotates to create the second word. These are a wonderful way to pair the names of a couple, a first and last name, a name with an adjective, or any two words. You can display one word at a time, or, when the words are placed together, the whole image appears the same when rotate. There are several websites that offer this service, just Google: Ambigram and wedding I you will find plenty of options.
